- Use the branding as established in the Wentzville Facility while designing to reflect the new Warrenton vernacular.
- Incorporate LEED type initiatives without certification of the building.
Challenge:
- Our Goal- to support their mission with the design of the facility.
- Respect and maintain the original branding design while creating an identity of uniqueness for the Warrenton Facility.
Concept and Solutions:
- Concept: We incorporated elements from the Owner’s mission to drive the design. The Crider logo was designed with the clients they serve in mind. It visually demonstrates their mission using natural elements; birds flying over water waves towards the sun – a natural and soothing concept.
- The Site – People generally benefit from environments that are peaceful, and calm which are often created through green space. We incorporated a park like, green space concentrated at the drop off plaza for a calm and inviting arrival – cheerfully accented with colorful planting detail.. The goal- to bring clear, direct access to the building while responding to the human need for scale, detail and tranquility.
- The Building - The material selections were consistent with the Wentzville building brand. The Birds represent the freedom to receive health care. The birds rise up from waves. We designed a Wing wall as a stable element that transcends the height of the building and sores as a vertical cantilever. The image of the sun: the dawn of a new beginning for individuals and their families- we designed the building glass to face east to capture the new day; the water waves symbolic of the ebb and flow of everyday life is reflected in the pattern rhythm of material changes.
- The Interiors – Complimenting the branding materials and color palate, we extended the symbolism in added features that pay tribute to the mission. Highlight areas include translucent resin panels with bear grass patterns, sculptures in flight of cast plaster with a subtle painted matted porcelain bird, and curving details for fluid transitions. Material patterns distinctively represent clear and intended uses. The idea of hospitality compliments the need for gentle surroundings for mental, medical and dental health.
- LEED initiatives included open space site vegetation, avoiding heat island effects, low VOC materials, Green label materials, electrical automatic shut offs and sensors for electrical and water uses, regional materials and recycled contents
